Make claims that people can examine

The value of a system cannot be established by its narrative alone. Evidence should show what was built, what was tested and what happened when people used it.

EXPLORE THE IDEA

What would make this claim convincing?

A product says it saves time. Before treating that as established, distinguish the proposed benefit, the artifact that exists and the result observed in use.

UNDERSTAND THE RELATIONSHIP

The promise

State a concrete benefit for a recognizable person and task.

IN A CONCRETE SITUATION“Prepare a weekly update with less repeated work” is a claim that can be examined.

01

Separate different kinds of support

Different claims need different support. Keep the type of evidence visible:

  • Source shows an implementation; a reproducible test shows behavior under stated conditions.
  • An operating workflow can provide observations; research can support or challenge a broader thesis.
  • A polished demonstration does not establish production performance, and none of these evidence types should silently substitute for another.

Consider the claim: “This workflow reduces repeated work in a weekly update.” Different evidence answers different parts of that claim.

What do you have in hand?
A CLAIM TO EXAMINE

You have a direction to examine.

The intended benefit is described for a recognizable person and recurring task.

Could this reduce repeated work in a weekly update?

Inspect the claim’s limits
What it supports

The claim can guide what to build and what to observe.

What it leaves open

It does not show that an implementation exists or that the benefit occurred.

WHAT WOULD HELP YOU DECIDE

Name the repeated work and the conditions that would make the improvement recognizable. Ask what would weaken the claim.

Where this explanation comes from

A hypothetical claim used to distinguish thesis, implementation and observation. No time-saving result or completed measurement is claimed.

02

Keep the conditions attached

Useful evidence identifies the version, environment, method and limits of the observation. It makes failures and unanswered questions visible alongside successes. An outcome also needs a meaningful comparison: what changed, for whom, and over what period? This makes an account more useful than an unexplained score or a claim of universal improvement.

Choose the check that answers the question.Examine the support · 3 ways to look closer

One green check cannot establish every boundary. Connect the intended claim with the smallest observation that can support it.

What do you need to establish?
A CLAIM TO EXAMINE

Observe a denied call through the real entry point.

The operation explicitly requires approval, and the request otherwise has valid input.

What it supports

A disposable counter or fake outbox can reveal whether the handler was entered.

What it leaves open

A hidden button or mocked always-allow verifier cannot establish the guard.

WHAT WOULD HELP YOU DECIDE

Omit the required receipt, inspect the adapter’s canonical failure and verify the effect remains untouched in your actual test.

Where this explanation comes from

An authored situation, grounded in the linked source guides. Choosing a case explores its expected responsibilities; it does not execute an operation.

Connect the worldview to inspectable work

Use ContractSpec examples and Release status to explore technical material with its stated qualification. The LSSM OS evidence loop describes how operational learning fits the product. Public claims should follow the evidence available for their precise scope. This review concept introduces no customer results, impact figures or independent validations.
